Programmes

We are committed to developing and implementing a range of programmes that will raise visibility and awareness of critical touch points for the communities we serve and contribute to bringing about real and meaningful social change.

We partner with a range of passionate individuals, industry experts and forward-thinking organisations to foster safe, supportive and inclusive environments where everyone is respected for who they are, how they present and whomever they love.

These programmes include:

Community Hubs

Our Community Hubs are developed to foster a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where everyone is celebrated for who they are. Services offered include counselling, advocacy, health and wellness support, arts and entertainment as well as parent, youth and family support services.

Our online LGBT+ community hub, developed in collaboration with Microsoft, provides a range of resources, support tools and information to the wider LGBT+ community and corporate partners.

Outreach and Awareness

Our community outreach and awareness programmes are aimed at educating the public on a wide array of topics affecting marginalised individuals in townships and rural areas, including relationship recognition, workplace, family, community and health issues.

Our delivery platform and expert moderators foster a unique, safe environment while enabling high levels of engagement and free exchange between participants and facilitators.

Affinity Network Support

As companies continue to navigate their transformation, diversity and inclusion agendas, we provide information, resources and support in facilitating internal employee engagement programmes and initiatives.

Our network of speakers and facilitators offer a variety of existing workshops or talks which can be customised or tailor made to suit specific requirements. Our creative team is also on hand to generate new ideas, assets or workplace collateral; providing fresh opportunities to build allies and engage in more meaningful conversations.

Content College

Drawing on the skills and expertise of partner organisations, artists, corporates and individuals, we aim to develop a range of communications and awareness resources for use by member companies.

The content college will include podcasts, videos, digital assets, webinars, training material, articles and other elements aimed at sharing stories, increasing visibility and representation, and shifting mindsets about often-marginalised communities.

Parental and Youth Support

At Uthingo we are driven by creating communities where LGBTQI+ youth grow up with a positive outlook for the future, one where they will have the opportunity to positively impact their own lives.

Our parental support programme provides resources for parents of LGBTQI+ children and unites them in the context of their families, cultures and faith.

Skills Development and Mentorship

Our mission is to support local LGBTQI+ individuals, businesses and entrepreneurs to find and develop their true potential as legitimate members of society.

By developing a network of local and global mentors and providing access to a variety of skills development initiatives, we create more opportunities for marginalised people to flourish and prosper.

Art for Social Change

Using art and local artists and artisans, Uthingo Africa endeavours to create cohesive, inclusive and financially sustainable projects that will have lasting social impact.

Art has immense power to bring about social change and is universally recognised and understood – breaking barriers, raising awareness and giving voice to the voiceless.

Uthingo Africa is committed to supporting South Africa’s efforts in achieving its’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), particularly around job creation, eliminating poverty, reducing inequality and growing an inclusive economy.

The Global Goals were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
